Say it with me, “I am enough”
I don’t know about you, but life can be hard. There are so many things we want to get done and not enough hours in the day to do them. We have items on our growing t0-do list to check off, friends and family we want to spend time with- and let’s not forget that “YOU” time everyone speaks of that we never seem to have time for.
I had a phone conversation last night with my cousin Caley and it really got me thinking. She was telling me how all she wants to do right now is focus on herself, you know, have a little “Caley time”, but with everything else going on in her day-to-day life, focusing on herself gets pushed to the back burner almost every time. She’s so mentally and physically drained after a full day of work, and she still has 5 other things she has to get done before the day is over- that hardly leaves anytime for her to do something for herself. How long can we continue putting our personal needs last? Sooner or later it’s going to take a toll on our body and our personal well-being and then we’re bound to crash.
I can’t stress enough how important it is to set aside time for YOU. I know, I know, “but Amanda, I have a family to take care of, a new promotion at work i’m going for, bills to pay and laundry to take care of- you expect me to have ME time?” I understand that this is easier said than done, but it’s important to care for yourself . When life gets crazy (which is pretty much always) and before you feel like you’re in over your head, spend sometime focusing on you and your personal needs- more often than not, the other stuff can wait.
Even if it’s for 15 minutes, set aside some time for yourself to sit on the couch with just you and your thoughts (and maybe a glass of wine or 2), and be intentional about it. If you don’t make it a priority, it’s not going to happen. Maybe sitting on the couch and relaxing isn’t your idea of good quality “you-time”; pick up a hobby, go to the gym, spend time in the great outdoors, cook, etc. Whatever it is that puts the spark back into your life, do that, and do it as often as you can.
You are enough- don’t you forget that. In order to be the best YOU possible, you have to make sure you’re taking care of yourself and that means getting up and moving a little bit everyday, feeding your body with proper nutrients, spending time with family and friends, etc.
Make it a point to do something for yourself this week or weekend. Don’t get so busy creating a life that you forget to live.
